Wisdom Within Therapy

Client-centered psychotherapy for individuals and couples.

Erin Todhunter LMFT

I believe that difficult feelings—from anxiety and depression to grief or anger—serve as beacons, guiding us to parts of ourselves that need attention and healing. I work collaboratively with clients to heal emotional wounds, explore conditioned responses, and discover more compassionate ways of being in relationship with oneself and others.

Therapy often helps remind us of what we already know but may have forgotten or neglected. By giving voice to our inner experience in a therapeutic relationship, our path forward becomes clearer. As a client-centered therapist, I trust in my clients’ innate wisdom to make sense of their experiences, gain insight, and make changes that can lead to greater well-being. And whenever helpful, I share perspectives and tools that may lie outside of present awareness.

Focusing on the roots of emotional suffering, I believe that our early attachment experiences shape how we engage in our adult relationships and with the world. As an Internal Family Systems therapist, I also believe in the natural multiplicity of the human mind. In IFS therapy, the goal is not to eliminate seemingly difficult or unpleasant parts of ourselves, but to listen to them closely and come to understand the ways they are trying to protect us. When we are able to heal underlying wounds, these parts no longer need to work so hard on our behalf, and we can experience greater balance and harmony.

I also offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a form of therapy that helps us heal from the symptoms of trauma and other overwhelming life experiences.

My manner is warm, clear and compassionate. I believe that empathetic, attuned and non-judgmental listening are foundational to healing.

Drawing on long experience as a life partner and parent of three children, I understand the challenges no less than the joys that come from being in relationship with those we love. I am deeply committed to my own lifelong process of learning, growth and healing and feel incredibly honored to support others on their own journeys.
